Detroit is a fascinating and wonderfully diverse American city. Finding Detroit is a celebratory book about the people and the city. I photographed and interviewed my subjects at their favorite places in Detroit. Locations ranged from the James Scott Memorial Fountain at Belle Isle and the Detroit Institute of Arts to a local bookstore and the charred bedroom of a burned-out childhood home. Detroiters spoke with love, hope and, very often, defiance about the city they call home.
“Detroit is my home. Detroiters are my people... we all want the same thing—a clean, safe, strong Detroit.”
“I’m not only optimistic about Detroit, I’m part of the activism that’s going to help it resurge.”
“I’ve seen changes in Detroit and I’m looking forward to more. Detroit is on a positive comeback.”
“Detroit is home. Home sweet home.”
